Children at risk of school exclusion

A child at risk of school exclusion is defined as any child exposed to any difficulties or discrimination in gaining access to school because of their physical or mental condition, their sex, their believes or their membership in a given socio-community group.
In that area we list children living with disabilities, those from minority social groups, etc.

Difficulties Encountered

  • On the human level, the permanent staff who are active day by day for the operation; the chairwoman, the executive secretary; the project and program coordinator; liaison officers between the school and the families; the regional delegates in charge of liaison between the national office and the beneficiary structures of the regions. These make a total of 18 as permanent staff, 20 volunteers. Indeed, the number of permanent staff being limited, several activities would not have been carried out without the help of volunteers.
  • At the material level, the lack of means of transport and communication tools have limited the visibility of our actions. In addition, there is lack of wheeled vehicle for field trips to visit the families living in hard-to-reach areas.
  • At the financial level, the limited financial resources impose the achievement of activities under extremely difficult conditions. A surplus of sacrifices and additional efforts are necessary, which makes the task much more difficult.
  • At the social level, we are always confronted with situations which force us to play the role of parents for children who have lost both parents.
  • With some situations of pygmy children who live in the bush, we are called upon to dress them, care for them, educate them, during their stay at school, most pygmies are settled along the main roads. Most of them return to the bush, some for hunting and gathering, thus abandoning school. Some do not come back, and for those who come back, we have to start all over again.

  • In terms of inclusion, we have considerable difficulties because of the non-existence of inclusive infrastructures for destitute children with disabilities.
  • We have difficulties for socio-professional integration at the end of their study program, at the primary , secondary or higher level.
  • We also have difficulties in integrating these children into vocational schools and higher education.
  • Some villages are far from schools inhard-to reach areas, this causes us serious concerns for the household surveys of certain families.
  • Finally among all these children some are refugees who live in great precariousness, we have serious problems to cover the needs of all these entities.

You need a canoe without engine to reach these villages, for there are no bridges for instance.
